Team Statement Following Plane Crash Carrying KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl

The Toronto Maple Leafs released the following statement on this morning’s plane crash carrying the Kontinental Hockey League’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl , which included former Maple Leafs players Alexander Karpovtsev and Igor Korolev.
“The Toronto Maple Leafs are deeply saddened to learn of the deaths of Alexander Karpovtsev and Igor Korolev, who died in the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl tragedy on Wednesday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Alexander and Igor, and all those who were involved in today’s plane crash.”
Alexander Karpovtsev played 150 regular season and playoff games for the Maple Leafs from 1998 to 2000. Igor Korolev spent four seasons from 1997 to 2001 with the Blue and White, playing 321 regular season and playoff games.
