New Additions To Leafs & Marlies Broadcasts
Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) announced Friday that veteran broadcaster Dan Dunleavy and Ontario Hockey League (OHL) broadcaster Jon Abbott will join the organization as play-by-play announcers of its Maple Leafs and Marlies radio broadcast teams respectively.

Dunleavy will share the Maple Leafs broadcast duties with Joe Bowen on Talk Radio AM 640, host all home pregame shows and will appear on Leafs Breakfast. He will also have reporting duties on Leafs TV and blog for www.mapleleafs.com. Dunleavy, a native of Toronto, joins the Maple Leafs broadcast team after 19 years at Sportsnet Radio, Fan 590 Toronto.

He brings a wealth of hockey broadcast experience including nine years of play-by-play of the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, 2010 Vancouver Olympics Men’s and Women’s Hockey, the OHL’s Mississauga Majors, and Canadian Hockey League and American Hockey League games on Rogers Sportsnet. Most recently, Dunleavy has been heard on NHL broadcasts in Buffalo, where he worked with another Leafs TV alumnus, Harry Neale.

Dunleavy’s broadcast resume also includes soccer and lacrosse. He was the play-by-play voice for the National Lacrosse League’s Toronto Rock on the Fan 590 and has been the play-by-play radio voice for Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC since the team’s inception.

Abbott joins the Marlies broadcast team after spending seven years covering the OHL, primarily with the Ottawa 67s. He began his career working as a Production Assistant for Leafs TV, then moving on as the play-by-play broadcaster for the OHL’s London Knights and eventually landed in Ottawa. He also served as a reporter for the 2009 and 2011 World Juniors and the 2008 and 2011 Memorial Cup.

“We’re excited to welcome Dan and Jon to the Maple Leafs and Marlies broadcast teams,” said Chris Hebb, MLSE’s Senior Vice-President of Broadcast and Content. “Both Dan and Jon bring a wealth of hockey broadcast experience and knowledge. Hockey fans will be familiar with Dan’s voice and passion for the sport through his work with the World Juniors and Olympic Hockey medal round games at the 2010 Vancouver Game. We’re excited to have Jon return to Leafs TV where he started. His OHL work has been something we have been following for a while and moving up to the AHL Marlies is the next step in a promising career.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs begin training camp for the 2011-12 NHL season Friday, September 16. The team plays its first preseason game against the Ottawa Senators on Monday, September 19 at Air Canada Centre. The Marlies will host the Syracuse Crunch on Sunday, October 2 in Schomberg, Ontario at the Trisan Centre to open their preseason.
