It was a rough second period for the Maple Leafs. Zac Rinaldo opened the scoring on a nifty breakaway goal on James Reimer just over seven minutes into the frame. It didn't get any better from there.

Wayne Simmonds tipped home a Matt Carle point shot on the power play and 2:30 later, Mike Testwuide beat Reimer high blocker side for a 3-0 lead sealing the win for the Flyers. Sean Couturier would add another goal in the third period to round out the scoring.

7:56 Ice-time for Colton Orr who played his first game since last January.
89 Per cent on faceoffs for Mike Zigomanis who won eight and lost one.

Flyers defenceman Matt Carle is one of the more underrated players in the NHL. He has become a key member of the Flyers blueline and Tuesday he was the best player on either team. He finished the game with two assists and was a plus two in 20:56 of ice-time.

Carle had two hits and he tied for the team lead in blocks with two. Last season, Carle had 40 points and was a plus 30 logging almost 22 minutes a night for the Flyers.

One of the Leafs newest acquisitions, Cody Franson made his debut in the Blue and White. Although the Leafs' power play went 0-8, Franson was out on the first unit with Tim Connolly on the point.

Franson was paired with Mike Komisarek who also had a strong game. Franson led the team in shots with five and ice-time with 24:15. While known more for his big shot, Franson was trying to throw his weight around a few times looking to energize his team.

In preseason action, it is no surprise when teams struggle and in the loss to Philadelphia, the Leafs' power play couldn't get going.

Not only did they fail to score on eight chances, they had a full two minute 5-on-3 in the third period that could've given them some hope. The Leafs' first unit on this night saw four forwards with one defenceman deployed but despite good puck movement they couldn't get their shots through. The Flyers blocked 15 shots on the night.

Ron Wilson on the play of the Tim Connolly-Phil Kessel-Joffrey Lupul line:

"They struggled a bit tonight. It's going to take some time for them to get some chemistry and find the timing out there. The other issue is getting the puck. If you get the puck at the right time your forwards are on the attack. Tonight we didn't move the puck well out of our end so then it kind of hindered the forwards from ever looking really good."

Game Notes:
The Maple Leafs play their third straight preseason game when they travel to Philadelphia to face the Flyers again.

After the game on Tuesday, Ron Wilson said that both Luke Schenn and Joe Colborne will be in the lineup again. The Flyers could start Ilya Bryzgalov who they signed this summer from Phoenix.
