Olympian Tessa Bonhomme Joins Leafs TV
Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) announced Friday that Olympic Gold Medalist and Canadian women’s hockey team member, Tessa Bonhomme, will join the organization as part of its Leafs TV and GOLTV Canada broadcast and digital teams.      Bonhomme, 26, a Sudbury native and current member of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League’s Toronto Furies, will serve as host/commentator for the Toronto Maple Leafs pregame and postgame shows on Leafs TV, appear and report on flagship programs Leafs Today and Leafs@practice, host Toronto FC telecasts on GOLTV Canada and share her unique insider perspective as an online contributor at  www.mapleleafs.com.

"We're extremely excited to welcome Tessa to MLSE and to have her as a member of our broadcast team," said Chris Hebb, senior vice-president of Broadcast and Content for MLSE. "We feel that Tessa’s personality and her wealth of hockey and sports experience will allow her to connect with our viewers and give unique perspectives on our teams."

Hebb added, “MLSE has a history of hiring and growing great young broadcasters and Tessa is the next one.”

Bonhomme was a key member of Canada's Olympic Gold Medal National Women's Hockey Team at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and has been with the national team program since 2004. While representing her country, she played an important role on teams that won Silver in Sweden in 2005, Gold in Canada in 2007, Silver in Finland in 2009 and Silver in Switzerland in 2011. She will continue to play for both Hockey Canada and the Toronto Furies, while working for
MLSE.Bonhomme was a two-time finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award (given annually to the top player in NCAA women’s hockey) while at Ohio State University where she majored in Speech and Hearing Science. She was named Ohio State Most Valuable Freshman in 2003-2004 and later served as co-captain. She was named first-team All-American her senior year (2008) and while with the Buckeyes she won various awards and broke the Ohio State single season record for the most points (45) by a defenceman.  In 2010, she was selected first overall by the CWHL Toronto HC (now Furies) in their player selection draft.

Sports are my passion and I really enjoy connecting with others who share my love of the game,” said Bonhomme. “I’m very excited that MLSE has given me the opportunity to bring its viewers closer to the teams and sports they love; while I continue to play hockey for both Toronto and Canada. I truly get to live the best of both worlds.”

Most recently, Bonhomme was the first female hockey player to participate in the CBC’s hit show, “Battle of the Blades,” emerging victorious in a competition featuring former NHL players figure skating with female partners.  Tessa was named the champion, along with her skating partner and fellow Gold Medal Olympian, David Pelletier.
