David Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Monday the hockey club has signed forward Mason Raymond to a one-year contract.
"Based on Mason's play in the preseason, we feel he fits in well with our group and will have a significant role on our team," said Nonis. "We agreed to terms over the weekend and look forward to him making a strong contribution this season."
Raymond, 28, played 46 games for the Vancouver Canucks in 2012-13, collecting 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) with 16 penalty minutes and a plus-two (+2) rating. He ranked second on Vancouver in powerplay goals (4) and fourth in goals (tie-10). The native of Cochrane, Alberta also played four playoff games for the Canucks last season, registering a goal and an assist with a team-high plus-two (+2) rating.
In 374 career NHL regular season games, all with Vancouver, Raymond has amassed 178 points (80 goals, 98 assists) and 118 penalty minutes. In 2009-10, the 6-0, 182-pound forward posted career highs in goals (25), assists (28), points (53) and penalty minutes (48). Raymond was originally selected by the Canucks in the second round, 51st overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft.
