Leafs Sign Kontiola, Santorelli & Bodie

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the team has agreed to terms on one year contracts with forwards Petri Kontiola, Mike Santorelli and Troy Bodie.

Kontiola, 29, was a seventh-round selection, 196th overall, of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2004. He recorded five assists in 12 games for Chicago in 2007-08. The native of Seinajoki, Finland has spent the past five seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) with Chelyabinsk Traktor and Magnitogorsk Metallurg. In 53 KHL games this past season with Chelyabinsk Traktor, he notched 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points. He was a member of Finland’s bronze medal winning team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia where he earned five points (one goal, four assists) in six games. He also represented his home country at the 2014 IIHF World Championships by recording three goals and six assists in 10 tournament games and earned a silver medal.

Santorelli, 28, dressed in 49 contests for the Vancouver Canucks this past season and scored 10 goals and added 18 assists. His plus 9 mark with the Canucks was first among team forwards and third-best on the team. Born in Vancouver, B.C., the centreman has 87 points (43 goals, 44 assists) in 257 career NHL games with Nashville, Florida, Winnipeg and Vancouver. He was originally drafted 178th overall in the 2004 Entry Draft by the Predators.

Bodie, 29, appeared in 47 games for the Maple Leafs in 2013-14 and recorded three goals and seven assists. He was a plus six with 26 minutes in penalties. The Portage La Prairie, Manitoba native originally joined Toronto as a free agent on July 10, 2013. He has collected nine goals and 12 assists (21 points) in 154 career NHL games with Toronto, Carolina, and Anaheim.
