Matt Martin was selected in the fourth round, 66th overall, by the Leafs in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. The defenceman made his Toronto debut on October 19, 1993 at Maple Leaf Gardens against the team he grew up watching, the Hartford Whalers.
Overall, he recorded five assists and 71 penalty minutes in 76 career regular season games with Toronto from 1993 to 1997.
The native of New Haven, Connecticut was a product of the United States National Team and the University of Maine. His greatest thrill in hockey was participating in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Martin also represented his country at the 1997 World Hockey Championships.
