Raised just north of Toronto, Jeff O'Neill came home to play for the Maple Leafs in the summer of 2005. He played in 74 games in each of his two seasons with Toronto following the cancelled 2004-05 NHL season.

O'Neill's impact came on the powerplay as he scored 14 goal of his 19 goals with the man advantage in 2005-06. He shared the team-lead with six game-winning tallies. The following season the right-winger scored 20 goals for the fifth time in his NHL career and he was one of four Leafs to reach the plateau.

O'Neill's first goal in a Leafs' uniform came against the Flyers on October 11, 2005 and he registered a hat trick and four points at Atlanta three nights later.

Playing for Guelph, O'Neill captured the Ontario Hockey League's Rookie of the Year Award in 1992-93. The standout junior represented Canada at the World Junior Championship in 1995 and came away with a Gold Medal.

Drafted fifth overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers, O'Neill played in 821 career NHL games and recorded 237 goals, 259 assists and 496 career points. One game with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League in 1996-97 was his lone appearance in the minor leagues during his pro career. His Carolina Hurricanes team eliminated the Leafs in the 2002 Eastern Conference Final and fell short to the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Final.
