TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ What appeared to be a blown call wound up costing the Tampa Bay Lightning one point.
Gary Roberts scored with 44.4 seconds left in the third period as the Toronto Maple Leafs and Lightning tied 4-4 Tuesday night.
Roberts scored from the low slot, completing a two-goal third-period comeback.
The goal came after a disputed icing call against the Lightning.
Tampa Bay defenseman Pavel Kubina sent the puck off the board from behind his net past two Toronto players at the point. The puck was slowing as it neared the end line and television replays appeared to show Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe touching the puck before it crossed the line.
Linesman Jonny Murray raised his hand to indicate icing, which resulted in a faceoff in the Lightning zone with 56.1 remaining that setup the tying goal.
``Don't ask me ... don't even bother,'' a frustrated Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella said at the start of his postgame news conference.
Maple Leafs coach Pat Quinn said he didn't know whether his team caught a break.
``There were a lot of missed calls all night long,'' he said. ``So to pick one out and say that we got one, I'd argue that all night long.''
Toronto's Tomas Kaberle didn't get an assist, but played a key role in Roberts' goal by keeping Martin St. Louis' clearing attempt in the Lightning zone after the faceoff.
``I've got to get that puck out,'' St. Louis said. ``I've got to find a way to get it out. Fight all game and it comes down to that play. I'm very disappointed (in myself).''
The Lightning had taken a 4-2 lead when Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards scored 50 seconds apart early in the period.
Lecavalier got his second goal of the game, both on the power play, from the right-circle. Richards then made it a two-goal game from in close.
Owen Nolan got the Maple Leafs within 4-3 on a power play at 5:09.
St. Louis had a goal and two assists for the Lightning, who had lost nine straight to the Maple Leafs. Tampa Bay is 7-1-1 over the past nine games overall.
``We played them toe-to-toe tonight,'' Tortorella said. ``We didn't finish the game. We had it almost finished, but things didn't happen. We'll take the point. I'm very happy with the point and I'm very happy with the effort.''
Mats Sundin and Robert Reichel also scored for Toronto, which is 6-2-1 in its last nine games.
``We showed a lot of character,'' Sundin said. ``I think anytime you're down 4-2 in the third and you find a way to earn a point, I think it's great.''
The Lightning went 3-for-4 on the power play and have converted 12 of their last 28 opportunities. Toronto was 2-of-5 with the man advantage.
St. Louis put the Lightning up 1-0 with a power-play goal 59 seconds into the second period. The right wing's 25th goal came from low slot as he was being checked to the ice.
Sundin tied it on a power play. He skated down the slot and beat Nikolai Khabibulin after taking a breakout pass from McCabe.
Tampa Bay went back up 2-1 on Lecavalier's power-play goal, but Reichel made it 2-2.
Trevor Kidd made 25 saves in his third consecutive start for the injured Ed Belfour, who did not make the trip because of a back injury.
Khabibulin turned aside 25 shots.
