PHILADELPHIA (AP) -The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for more consistency, and they were pleased with their effort Saturday night.
Alex Steen and Jeff O'Neill each had a goal and an assist to lead Toronto past the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2.
"When we stay away from mistakes, we are a pretty tough team," Steen said. "The last week or so, there have been some mistakes. We have to stay away from them and be more consistent."
Chad Kilger, Mats Sundin and John Pohl also scored, and Bryan McCabe added three assists for the Maple Leafs. Toronto had dropped five of seven.
Andrew Raycroft, making his 23rd consecutive start in goal for Toronto, stopped 22 shots for his 28th win. The Maple Leafs have won five in a row against Philadelphia and seven of the last eight meetings.
Sami Kapanen and Simon Gagne scored for the Flyers, who lost their fourth straight and fifth in six games.
After the game, the Flyers acquired 6-foot-5, 220-pound defenseman Braydon Coburn from the Atlanta Thrashers for 14-year NHL veteran Alexei Zhitnik.
Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren said the chance to acquire Coburn came up a few days ago.
"Braydon is a player who we have liked since his draft year (2003)," Holmgren said. "He is a big, young defenseman that skates very well. He will fit in nicely with our young group."
Zhitnik was acquired by the Flyers from the New York Islanders for Freddie Meyer and a conditional draft pick on Dec. 16. In 31 games with Philadelphia, Zhitnik had 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and 38 penalty minutes.
"Alexei was a good player for us and we wish him nothing but the best in the future," Holmgren said.
The 21-year-old Coburn had four assists and 30 penalty minutes in 29 games for the Thrashers this season.
Raycroft kept the Flyers at bay with several brilliant stops, including a glove save on Jeff Carter late in the first period and stick saves on close shots by Zhitnik and Gagne in the second. Raycroft also stopped Kapanen on a breakaway midway through the third.
"We played well enough to win," Toronto coach Paul Maurice said. "I thought he made some important saves. It was not an easy game for him."
Steen put the Maple Leafs ahead with a one-timer from the left circle at 11:16 of the first period. It was his 12th goal of the season and first in eight games since scoring the game-winner at St. Louis on Feb. 6.
O'Neill made it 2-0 with his 20th goal at 12:57 of the second period when he poked in a rebound of Steen's wrist shot.
Kilger increased Toronto's lead when he stuffed the puck under the right pad of Philadelphia goalie Michael Leighton with 2:00 left in the period.
"We got off to a good start," Steen said. "All lines were rolling. That was a big positive tonight."
Philadelphia responded 46 seconds later when Kapanen scored unassisted on a slap shot from the left circle.
Sundin put in a rebound of his own shot for his team-leading 26th goal at 8:41 of the third period.
Pohl and Gagne traded goals in the final 1:10. It was Gagne's team-leading 34th.
"Tonight was one of those nights that we didn't manage the puck the right way," Kapanen said. "We kept turning the puck over in our defensive zone and Toronto kept scoring."
Leighton made 25 saves.
Notes: Toronto D Pavel Kubina was scratched after breaking his finger against the New York Islanders last Thursday. ... The Flyers are 1-4-1 since trading captain Peter Forsberg on Feb. 15. ... Toronto D Tomas Kaberle had his team-leading 39th assist on Kilger's goal.
