TORONTO - Brad Stuart's goal at 16:00 of the second period broke a tie and the San Jose Sharks extended their winning streak to six games by beating the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Tuesday night at Air Canada Centre.

Stuart's shot from the half-boards went off of a Maple Leafs defenseman in front of the net and past goalie James Reimer to break a 2-2. Joe Pavelski's pressure in front of the net forced the defense to back in on Reimer.

Logan Couture added an empty-net goal with 1:24 left in regulation, assuring the Maple Leafs of their fifth consecutive loss.

The Sharks struck first at 10:00 of the first period when defenseman Jason Demers took a shot from the blue line that was tipped through Reimer's five-hole by former Maple Leaf Mike Brown. It was Brown's second goal of the season.

Joe Thornton made it 14:31 during a 5-on-3 power play with his fifth of the season after the Maple Leafs got trouble because of penalties to Jay McClement and Mason Raymond.

Toronto got going in the second period, and Raymond made it 2-1 with a power-play goal at 2:34. Raymond stole the puck from Stuart and broke in on a 2-on-1, beating goalie Antti Niemi through the five-hole for his 10th goal of the season.

The power play helped the Maple Leafs tie the game 2-2 when Phil Kessel scored his 15th goal of the season and 200th of his career at 9:47. Tyler Bozak set up Kessel with a quick pass after an initial shot from the side of the net by James van Riemsdyk.

Niemi made 28 saves for the San Jose. Reimer stopped 37 shots for Toronto.

The Sharks continue their four-game road trip on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Maple Leafs host the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
